The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow

An antiquarian Thomasina Bateman is writing a book on the barrows that are found in England, documenting her discoveries of treasures inside. A fascinating letter prompts her to explore the tiny village of Bewlay in England’s remote countryside. The author travels by train and her companion one day later.
When she arrives, however, the mysterious man who summoned her is nowhere to be found. Her assistant never arrives. The landowner is obnoxious and denies access to the barrow. Many people fear the woman as she is a solo traveler. wears trousers.
